Biography

Michel Bolinches has been practicing since 1993 within the IP departments of major companies and in law firms. At MICHELIN Group (1998–2003), he protected inventions in rubber chemistry, materials, and mechanics (polymerization, tires, reinforcements). In leading IP firms, he has worked on inventions in materials science, chemical and mechanical engineering, physics, optics, materials chemistry (automotive), and mechanics (aerospace).

A chemical engineering graduate (ENSIACET Toulouse, materials specialization) and holder of CEIPI diplomas in patents, trademarks, and designs, Michel is a French Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney, and authorized Representative before the UPC.

His services include patent drafting, prosecution (France and abroad), prior art searches, patentability studies, legal opinions (freedom-to-operate, patent validity, due diligence), oppositions (both defensive and offensive) before the EPO and USPTO (ex parte reexaminations), pre-litigation and litigation matters, as well as IP strategy and advisory work.

With more than 30 years of experience, Michel has successfully handled dozens of opposition proceedings before the EPO and USPTO, along with litigation cases (including infringement actions in France and entitlement disputes). He particularly values providing high-quality advice on patentability and freedom-to-operate, through thorough prior art searches and the development of relevant protection or opposition strategies.

Passionate about complex cases, especially in materials chemistry (e.g., polymers) and physics, Michel nurtures his curiosity through frequent readings of specialized works in chemistry, mathematics, physics, and patent law.
