Biography

Mehdi Bounahmidi supports innovative companies—from technology start-ups to large industrial groups—in protecting and leveraging their patents in France and internationally. He drafts patents across various technical fields and defends his clients’ interests before the EPO and national offices, with one guiding principle: making patents a true strategic asset that creates value.

He joined the firm in 2016 after starting his career with a major German automotive group on applied physics issues (fluid mechanics). Since then, Mehdi has advised more than a hundred clients. He works primarily in aeronautics, space, defense, robotics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, connected objects, computer-implemented inventions, and sensor technologies.

Mehdi is a European Patent Attorney (EPO) and a Representative before the UPC. He became a Partner in 2021. To date, he has maintained a 100% success rate in oppositions (EPO and INPI) and patent litigation he has handled. Among his successes is the victorious defense of a family-owned SME sued for patent infringement by a global packaging leader, which resulted in the complete revocation of the opposing patent.

A regular trainer at IEEPI on effective patent drafting, he places central importance on the drafting quality and legal robustness of each case. Mehdi has also developed recognized expertise in the financial valuation of intangible assets (patents, trademarks, know-how, software, databases, etc.). He applies both classical and advanced methods—including real options valuation (Black-Scholes model) and rigorous market studies (regressions, Bass diffusion model)—to inform investment decisions, partnerships, and technology transfers. This expertise has led him to speak at numerous conferences in France and abroad and to advise executives on building effective IP strategies. In 2023, a drone start-up he had supported since its inception won the INPI Trophies for best IP strategy.

An engineering graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO (specializing in space: structures, propulsion, satellite construction, Earth observation), Mehdi also holds a Diplôme d’Études Supérieures en Ingénierie de l’Innovation (DESII – ISAE-SUPAERO), a degree in Innovation Management (HEC Paris), and the CEIPI diploma (patents specialization) from the University of Strasbourg.

In short, Mehdi’s approach combines: in-depth preventive analysis of technologies and risks, strategic construction of portfolios aligned with business objectives, and operational execution with clear, structured exchanges with R&D teams and foreign partners. Passionate about multidisciplinary innovations, he is particularly committed to supporting start-ups and deep-tech ecosystems in structuring their IP from the earliest stages.
