Biography

Marc Picart supports innovative companies—from technology start-ups to industrial groups—in the strategic protection of their innovations, particularly in the fields of telecommunications, signal processing, and embedded computing. An engineer by training, Marc began his career at the Thomson Group research center in Rennes, where he worked for thirteen years on projects at the crossroads of image processing, parallel architectures, and network protocols.

He then joined the group’s intellectual property department in 2002, specializing in the management of patents with high technological content. After gaining initial experience in an IP firm in Brittany, Marc joined Santarelli in 2012.

Marc regularly advises on issues relating to standard-essential patents, international litigation, European oppositions, and the development of strategically valuable patent portfolios. His expertise is marked by a sharp understanding of industrial and regulatory challenges and by his ability to align R&D objectives with legal and competitive constraints.

He works with companies engaged in standardization processes (5G, video codecs, etc.) as well as start-ups in the process of fundraising or international expansion. Marc also teaches intellectual property, particularly to start-up incubators and engineering schools. He is committed to making the legal aspects of innovation accessible, offering clear, tailored strategies focused on maximizing the value of intangible assets. A sailing enthusiast, he finds in his profession the same passion for anticipation, strategy, and precision.
