History

Marc Santarelli

Founder

Marc Santarelli (1929-2010)

Founder of the eponymous firm in September 1977.

A Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney, authorized representative before the European Patent Office and the Office for Harmonization of the Internal Market, Marc Santarelli held an engineering degree from the prestigious Arts and Manufactures school, and a Master of Law.

Having started in the profession in 1964, for over 45 years his dual background as a lawyer and engineer predestined him to devote the majority of his professional life to defending clients in disputes and litigation.

Marc Santarelli was also very involved in the activities of various professional organizations both in France and internationally, including his roles as President of the French national societies for IP Attorneys, the Compagnie Nationale des Conseils en Brevets d’Invention (CNCBI) and the Association des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle (ACPI), as well as President of the French chapter of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI). At the international level, he was the Secretary General of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) and President of several international commissions within the AIPPI. He was named honorary member of both the FICPI and the AIPPI, and was named Knight of the National Order of Merit.

In 2003 Rinuy, Santarelli and Bonnet-Thirion merged to form Santarelli.

Through this union, specific know-how and the culture of excellence were passed on and today the firm thrives from this joint heritage.

Bonnet-Thirion was founded in 1852 by Charles Thirion, author of several articles and books on Intellectual Property, who played a key role in promoting the signature of the International Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property in 1883. Santarelli is committed to perpetuating his intellectual rigor.

The firm had developed particularly strong expertise in the areas of machinery, electrical equipment and physics.

Rinuy, Santarelli, which was founded in 1977 by Guy Rinuy and Marc Santarelli, mainly served international clients and was highly recognized for its expertise in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, mechanics and electronics.
